Sizzling Strategies to Get ‘er Done – Part II

Last week, in the first installment of “Sizzling Strategies to Get ‘er Done,” I shared the first of four time-busting strategies of Results Revolutionaries: Strategy #1, “Take a Helicopter Ride”, is the first action step in achieving your goals and dreams. Today we’re coming down to ground level to focus on the process of leveraging time. We get 24 hours in a day, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds so let’s talk about how to leverage every moment in Strategy 2.

STRATEGY #2: Create Structure to accomplish your goals.

I already hear you – “But Trish, every day I make a plan and every day I don’t get done anywhere near what I wanted to.”

I know what you’re talking about. Things come up, roadblocks get in the way, something unforeseen happens, emergencies come up. I know. I feel your pain. The same thing happens for me sometimes. And when it does I get back on track by following my own advice. So let me share with you 3 tips on how to accomplish what you set out to accomplish.

  1. 1. Get clear on your priorities

Realize that the most important things always get done. Always. Whatever you deem important is what will be accomplished. It’s a matter of priorities right?

If you promised a client you’d deliver a product you deliver it. If you promised your kid that you’d pick them up from school, you do it. If you promised a colleague you’d give them your opinion on their new product you do it. If you are responsible for getting dinner for your family, you do it.

For every activity on your to do list, ask yourself these questions:

  • “Why am I doing this?
  • What’s the end goal?
  • Am I doing this for me or for someone else?
  • How does doing this move me toward my goals and dreams?”

When you’ve taken the helicopter view and you know the big picture, you know where you want to go and how you’re going to get there and you can easily answer these questions. Then determine if they are your priority – emphasis on YOUR. So often what’s on our to do list is not our priority but someone else’s. It’s time to put you first.

Once you’re clear on your goals, and identify your priorities, you’ll be able to say no to the things that don’t get you there, and yes to the many things that do.
